GUEST OUTSIDER: KITTY LIVES: BROOKLYN, NEW YORK BLOG: New York Portraits ABOUT: I’m an architect and I live in Brooklyn. I post about New York life; working on homes for the fabulously wealthy; my boyfriend, Mark; his car, Clive; and our cat and dog. I take photos daily on a Canon G5 and Canon 40D. I am excited to post exclusive portraits of New York here at The Five Outsiders.
A group of giddy Santas crowd around a “Naughty Pole” for a group photo.
Photo by Kitty from New York Portraits in Washington Square Park, in the Village. This past weekend, the annual SantaCon met for its 16th year. Hundreds of Santas congregated in several locations around New York City in Washington Square Park, Staten Island, Queens and Brooklyn.
The rules are simple: dress like Santa Claus and bring canned donations for a food bank. Last year's SantaCon raised 1,000 lbs. of food for the needy in NYC.
SantaCon also takes place in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Tokyo and Antarctica. There is much drinking and revelry involved.

THE ARTIST'S STATEMENT: "I would like to bring something out there to people. I don’t want to be pinned down to one type of material, and I enjoy working with different things and subject matter. Although I like working with the figure the most, I want to be able to explore all kinds of things and ways to make something come to life. The most important thing to me is to be able to tell the stories I want to tell and to be able to paint someone so that someone can see them and really get what they are about, or maybe a certain side of them even if they don’t know them.” When painting I enjoy working from photographs and collecting images. For me it’s easier than trying to work with a live model or outside. At least with photographs they will stay there for as long as you need them, and you can arrange them all together in any way you want. And you don’t have someone staring over you or anything. Jessica:Croque Madame Where: Marquet Patisserie 680 Fulton St. Fort Greene, Brooklyn Cost: $7.50 This decadent sandwich helps me miss Paris a little less. Very authentic-tasting and straightforward, like that of a true Parisian brasserie. The only thing missing is the bustling sidewalk cafe to enjoy it. The staff here is very friendly and efficient, unlike the usual lackadaisical service in my still beloved Fort Greene.

Grab your New York Lova, pets and a box of Ju Ju Bees - it’s time to fall in love with your city all over again..
It’s quick to think that most great movies take place in Hollywood or the greater city of Los Angeles, but take note New Yorkers. From West Side Story to When Harry Met Sally, this list done by MSN.com proves that we know how to role with the best of them.
10. "West Side Story"Although filmed mostly on Los Angeles soundstages, this remains the greatest musical ever made about New York. Many other New York-based musicals focus on Broadway and show business -- "West Side Story" took utterly different issues (ethnic tensions and Upper West Side youth) and grafted the basic plot of "Romeo and Juliet" to them. Add brilliant music, unforgettable choreography and Robert Wise's inspired direction, and the results are pure magic.
A Place of Healing:Bikram Yoga NYC Address: 4 Locations around Manhattan what they are offering: For new students - 30 days of classes for $30. website:bickramyoganyc.com
Last week I gave a little information on a yoga studio in Chelsea, but this week I want to expand that information to another type of yoga class that is a little more specialized. What makes Bikram yoga different? The room is intentionally heated to 100 degrees to warm your muscles and allow you to work deeper and safer. The heat also heals, helps prevent injuries and promotes sweating, which flushes toxins from your body. The practice is a series of 26 Hatha Yoga postures and two Pranayama breathing exercises designed to provide a challenging, invigorating, rejuvenating and effective yoga experience. During this 90-minute class you will work every muscle, tendon, ligament, joint and internal organ in your body, giving you an incredible sense of well-being. READ MORE...
