THE ARTIST STATEMENT:
The artist statement is a real challenge. I grew up upstate in Ithaca, New York. I found photography in my senior year in college, so I finished an English degree at Earlham College and then went straight into another BA in photography at RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology). I have been freelancing in New York City since 2001. I hope to bring my work and my name forward this year in a new way and also nurture my place in the community, which I feel truly blessed to be a part of. Is that a digression from the artist statement?
THE SHOWCASE:
I make photographs, both traditional film and digital. I make art because it’s my impulse, and I try to do creative things whenever and to whatever I can in life. I also take a lot of pictures for the pure sake of commerce and the requirements of capitalism.

THE WORKSPACE:
I’m renovating an old carriage house to have shooting spaces as well as an art and event space. I like the idea of art parties and 24-hour gallery exhibits. TENTEN studios is the working title, as the address is 10‐10. It’s still very much a work in progress, but the space has two floors, north light on both floors and lots of creative potential. Perfectly located a block away from my apt in LIC! My plan is to have it open for business in May. The website will be 1010lic.com ...stay tuned. I’ve also spent most of my time as a photographer shooting on location and doing location projects, so before this my workspace could be anywhere. Hopefully that won’t totally change, but I will develop a new body of work when I have a studio to play in.Tags: Deena, Artist , Art
