This beautiful building is one of the most visited public spaces in New York. It was almost torn down in the 1950s, to be replaced by a tower designed by I.M. Pei. Interest to replace the building continued into the late 1960's until Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis intervened.
Thank goodness. The blue vault, decorated with the constellations, is incredible to see. There are restaurants on the upper mezzanines and a whole lower floor devoted to food. A major subway station is located here, and light rail trains leave all day for Upstate New York and Connecticut.Tags: Kitty, Portraits
