One of many musical groups playing below ground in the subways. Nearly every large subway station has musicians or dancers to entertain the crowds which makes Jessica’s Street Performers pretty awesome week after week.
Above, at Times Square, one fellow played the tambourine, while another played a xylophone of sorts. Their music was joyful, which was nice to hear after a long day at work.
Presently, 350 subway musicians are sponsored by the 'Arts for Transit' program by the MTA. Sponsored musicians audition to qualify, and play under large banners showing their name. Many musicians are not officially sponsored - they just show up, claim a spot and play.Tags: Kitty, Portraits
